One Simple Line

Someone once told me a line about life that has resonated with me ever since. The line itself is from a self improvement course that has been classified as a cult, just an FYI. At first the line angered me, however, as I began to understand the line, see it in action everyday, it made more and more sense. Ready for it? Think you can handle it?

Here it is:

Life is meaningless.

Yes you read that right, it is meaningLESS. There is no meaning to life. As you let that seep in, let me explain what they mean (ironic when it comes down to it)…

Life itself is meaningless, the meaning is added by us. By our minds, thoughts and societies. Which explains why there are so many different religions and values, rules and personal standpoints; because life is meaningless. We add meaning to it through our experiences, interactions and history.

It is a classier version of what an ex used to say that drove me nuts (mind you I was young and naive and still believed in fairy tale love at the time). He used to say, “it is what it is”. It still erks me to this day, possibly because of other personal feelings, BUT it’s the same idea.

Life is meaningless.

I like this line now as it gives me power. It puts the control of how I see the world and life in my hands. I control what life means to me. I control how I react and perceive my life experiences.

Life is meaningless. Let it sink in.
